self-management
"my life has become unmanageable; my first task is to set it in order. If I earnestly want to manage my life, I will have no time to manage anyone else's" -One Day at a Time in Al-Anon.
Neither Kev nor I have a drinking problem, and I'm not going to Al-Anon, but my mom bought me this book as she thinks it might have some insights for me into what went wrong with Kev and I, and why we're breaking up, and why the break-up is so strange and hard.
Co-dependence groups also use the 12 step process.
It's interesting to note that alcoholics are alcoholics long before they abuse drink. The final abuse of drink is the symptom of their alcoholism.
I like the quote because my line coming out of all this is "I am going to be my next project." Enough of fixing other people's lives, I have to get my own in order.

after karen and i broke up, i would say to her on occasion that i am my own highest priority, higher than the kids, because in order to be there for the kids i have to be there for myself. it's why i ultimataly left her: i was losing myself.
i am still my own project, even as i discover my true purpose in god.
as for the kids, i am here for them now that i am here for myself; moreover, i hope i am a role model of integrity, imperfect as i am.
The instructions for an emergency on an airplane are to make sure you get the oxygen mask on yourself first. You gotta breathe. (In the Bible breath are spirit are the same word.)
MAY DAY!
MAY DAY!
i didn't get an instruction card when i boarded this plane. ohh, there it is.
nevermind. good thing it's laminated and it floats.
Recently I heard of the 13th and the 14th step. These should have been called "stepped on from out of nowhere". You have to beware that 14th step: people taking advantage of what you have revealed to heal thyself and using it against you.
13 and 14th?! Didn't know they existed. Don't know what all the steps are. But so many people have been helped by the 12 steps, it myust be powerful.
while in her late 50s, my mother did a 12-step Adult Children of Alcoholics. i think she got a lot out of it. she learned to say 'no' very determinedly.
